Ngadyung and Mindygari take home the trophies
Ngadyung and Mindygari were the winners at the 2022 College Athletics Carnival as they took home the Championship Trophy and Spirit Cup respectively.
Ngadyung’s triumph on the track earnt the House its 12th Championship Trophy – eight more than any other House – while Mindygari’s Spirit Cup was its second in the last four years.
The carnival, which was held at the AIS on Tuesday 20 September, saw huge levels of attendance and participation. Students shrugged off the disappointment of the carnival’s postponement due to COVID restrictions in Term 1 to make the most of the event in the warm spring sun.
The displays of athleticism on the track and in the field, as well as the unrelenting spirit in the stands, made it a day to remember for all involved.
Students dressed according to the four House themes, which were ‘Doctors and Nurses’ for Ngadyung, ‘Tradies’ for Mindygari, ‘Lifeguards’ for Meup Meup, and ‘Zookeepers and Safari’ for Gurabang.
Two new features for the carnival in 2022 included a staff 100m and a wheelchair race, which had all students cheering on as Joshua Eynon of Year 11 crossed in first place.
The high level of enthusiasm from all four Houses meant that the battle for the Spirit Cup went down to the wire, with Mindygari ultimately emerging victorious ahead of Meup Meup.
The Championship Trophy was also closely fought, but Ngadyung pulled away in the relay races to close out the day.
The carnival was an enjoyable event for all involved, thanks in large part to the organisational skills of Mrs Monique Foran and her team of staff and students.
Congratulations to all students for the high levels of participation, demonstrations of athletic prowess, and positive attitudes that made the carnival a huge success.
