黑瓜吃料网 students Claire Lonie and Katelyn Twiss were named ACT champions in the Australian Culinary Federation's Secondary Schools Cooking Competition, which was held at CIT Reid on the last day of Term 2.
Claire and Katelyn claimed a gold medal in the competition for their panko-crusted ocean trout with lemon gel, miso foam, and coriander caviar.
They were announced as ACT Champions at the gala dinner 鈥� held at the Hyatt on Tuesday 14 July 鈥� and will now go on to represent the ACT and Australia at the International Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge in Tahiti this October.
The girls attributed their victory to the guidance of their food technology teacher, Mr Justin Kain.
"Our reaction was shock 鈥� we were surprised to get a medal at all," they said.
"Above all, we want to thank Mr Kain.
"Mr Kain was very helpful and gave a lot of his personal time, and we really appreciate the work that he does for us."
Mr Kain has played a major role in Claire and Katelyn's development as chefs. Last year, Mr Kain helped Claire and Katelyn, along with classmates Brooke Simpson and Amberley Elliott, to win the ACT Teen Chef competition.
To win two competitions as Year 9s and 10s against competitors in Years 11 and 12 is a remarkable feat. Congratulations, Claire and Katelyn!
